About Ipoh

Ipoh is the capital of the Malaysian state of Perak, set on the Kinta River in the Kinta District roughly 200 km north of Kuala Lumpur and about 150 km southeast of George Town in neighbouring Penang. Recorded at around 760,000 residents in the 2020 census, it is the ninth-largest city in Malaysia and one of the country's larger state capitals. This page sets out today's Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha times for the city's Muslim community.

Ipoh is the capital city of Perak, one of the states of Peninsular Malaysia, and the administrative centre of the Kinta District. It lies in the Kinta Valley on the banks of the Kinta River, at a low elevation of about 22 metres, roughly 200 km north of Kuala Lumpur and around 150 km southeast of George Town in neighbouring Penang.

With a population of about 760,000 recorded in the 2020 census, Ipoh ranks as the ninth-largest city in Malaysia and one of its more populous state capitals. As Perak's principal urban centre, it serves the surrounding Kinta Valley as a hub for administration, commerce, and daily life, including the religious life of its resident Muslim community.

Prayer Times in Ipoh

Ipoh keeps Malaysia Standard Time (UTC+8) all year with no daylight saving, so the daily prayer schedule shifts only gradually with the seasons. Lying just under 5 degrees north of the equator, the city sees very little seasonal variation in day length: sunrise and sunset stay close to the same clock times month to month, and the five prayers move only slightly across the year. Times shown here are calculated using the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) method, the national standard observed across Malaysia.

Ramadan in Ipoh

During Ramadan in Ipoh, the daily fast runs from Fajr (dawn) to Maghrib (sunset). Because the city lies close to the equator, the length of the fasting day stays fairly steady wherever Ramadan falls in the year, with little of the long-day or short-day swing experienced in cities at higher latitudes. Suhoor is taken before the Fajr time shown on this page, and the fast is broken at Maghrib.

Across Perak and Malaysia more widely, Ramadan brings well-known evening Ramadan bazaars offering food for iftar, and mosques host nightly Tarawih prayers after Isha. Worshippers in Ipoh can use the daily Fajr and Maghrib times here to plan suhoor and iftar, while confirming Tarawih and any local programmes with their nearest mosque.
